NSW Aboriginal Ranger Gathering 2025: Bridging Tradition and Technology at Trelawney Station

Lyon Ag was honored to participate in the Aboriginal Ranger Gathering at Trelawney Station near Tamworth, New South Wales, a significant event that united over 150 Aboriginal Rangers, local leaders, and vendors from New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and the Northern Territory. This gathering provided a vital platform for exchanging cultural knowledge and advancing land management practices, fostering collaboration among environmental and cultural leaders.

A Convergence of Culture and Innovation

The event highlighted the powerful synergy between traditional ecological knowledge and modern technology. Lyon Ag, in partnership with AgDrone.au, demonstrated how drone technology can enhance land management efforts. Any opportunity to showcase and fly the T50 is a good day, and our demonstrations illustrated its capabilities in supporting ancient practices, offering precise and sustainable solutions for monitoring and maintaining the land. We also discussed with leaders and locals how the precision mapping workflow is executed using the smaller Mavic 3 Multispectral, showcasing its efficiency in gathering detailed environmental data. By integrating these tools with time-honored methods, we aim to empower Rangers to achieve exceptional outcomes in environmental stewardship.

The gathering was supported by key organizations, including the NSW Aboriginal Land Council and the Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council, whose dedication to cultural preservation and community empowerment was evident throughout the event.

The second day began with a warm welcome from Senator Malarndirri McCarthy of the Northern Territory, accompanied by hot coffee that set an inviting tone. Attendees engaged in hands-on drone demonstrations, which captivated participants with their practical applications. The event also featured delicious native grain pikelets, celebrating Indigenous culinary traditions, and the distribution of Bushranger Power kits, equipping Rangers with essential tools for their work.

Looking Forward

The Aboriginal Ranger Gathering underscored the importance of collaboration between Indigenous communities and innovative partners. Lyon Ag is deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful dialogue and remains committed to supporting Aboriginal Rangers in their efforts to protect and manage the land. By combining cultural wisdom with technological advancements, we can create sustainable solutions that honor the past while building a resilient future.
